Local timber for joinery

local timber for joinery

Joinery work is a specialist area with specific requirements for the timber.

Windows, doors, staircases and architectural mouldings all require a high level of machining and finishing, therefore the timber needs to be able to achieve consistent grades to be workable as well as to be good looking. For this reason Ash, Chestnut Oak and Elm all make suitable joinery products.

You can search for Joinery timber in both Air Dried and Kiln Dried states for use depending on whether it is for interior or exterior work.

You can also search for timber in boards to make, cts or par and ready to use and your local timber stockists should be happy to quote for a lump sum price to make the pricing exercise less of a risk. You can find suppliers of mouldings cut to order in various profiles.

Issues to do with stability are crucial in joinery and you need the right material for the job. Thicknesses in T&T stock are generally 20/27/34/41/54/65/80/100mm in many of the species.

It is worth noting that homegrown timber will not be dried to the same degree as some imported timbers and moisture levels will fluctuate from 10-12% when just kilned to 16-18% depending on storage conditions. For further information see the product sheets for each individual species or call us for advice.
